Short answer. An Instagram copyright strike arrives as a notice naming a post or the account. Open that notice, read who filed it, and use the dispute steps on the screen if the claim does not match your work. If the whole account is disabled, appeal from the disable screen. Do not send your password.
An Instagram copyright strike is Meta acting on a claim that a post, a reel, or a story uses someone else’s work. The notice is the map. It names the content and shows the next step Instagram is offering. Read that before you hunt for an old form link.
Read the strike, then answer it
Screenshot the email and the in-app notice. You want the date, the content they named, and the name of the claimant if it is printed.
If the post is still the issue and the account logs in, open the notice and use the dispute steps on it. Write what is true:
You made the photo, the audio, or the clip.
You had a license, and you can describe it in a sentence.
The claim names the wrong post.
Stop there. Do not paste a counter-notice you found on a forum. Those letters are legal statements. Send words you mean.
If you do not know the song or the clip, say so, and remove the post if the account is still open. A second claim on top of a confused first one is harder to explain.
Send the username and both screenshots if you want the disable filed. We use Meta’s own official channels, open support chats, send follow-up emails, and push the case hard until it gets looked at. It takes a few days. Start a case on the contact page. How it works is the three steps. We never ask for your password.
It is a removal after someone told Instagram you used their work. The notice names the content. A single post can come down, or the account can be disabled after repeated claims.
How do I dispute a copyright strike?
Use the button on the notice Instagram showed you. Say what is yours, in plain words, and only if it is true. Keep the screenshots.
The account was disabled after a copyright claim. What now?
Appeal from the disable screen, and mention the copyright notice in the note. Send us both screenshots.
Should I copy a counter-notice from the internet?
No. Write the true facts of your post. A copied legal letter you do not mean is a bad document.
